Metode active learning tipe small group discussion merupakan metode yang dapat merangsang pemikiran, menantang sikap dan kepercayaan, serta mengembangkan skill-skill interpersonal, sehingga mampu mencapai hasil belajar yang optimal. Pada hakikatnya untuk dapat mencapai hasil belajar yang optimal, dalam proses pembelajaran hendaknya subjek didik terlibat secara intelektual maupun emosional, akan tetapi berdasarkan hasil pengalaman yang didapatkan oleh peneliti selama menjadi mahasiswa. Pada umumnya pelaksanaan pembelajaran di kelas masih didominasi oleh metode ceramah. Untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan metode active learning tipe small group discussion terhadap peningkatan hasil belajar, mengetahui pengaruh penerapan metode ceramah terhadap peningkatan hasil belajar, mengetahui efektivitas penerapan metode active learning tipe small group discussion dan metode ceramah terhadap peningkatan hasil belajar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah total sampling, diperoleh jumlah sampel 96 responden mahasiswa semester V tahun akademik 2023 / 2024 di Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta. Teknik analisa data adalah statistik parametris t-test jenis paired t-tes dan independen t-tes dengan taraf signifikansi 0,05. Metode active learning tipe small group discussion dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar (p = 0,000 < 0,05), metode ceramah dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar (p = 0,000 < 0,05), Metode active learning tipe small group discussion lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan metode ceramah dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar (p = 0,036 < 0,05). Hasilnya terdapat keefektivan penerapan metode active learning tipe small group discussion terhadap peningkatan hasil belajar, terdapat pengaruh penerapan metode ceramah terhadap peningkatan hasil belajar, metode active learning tipe small group discussion lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan metode ceramah dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar.
