Abstract
The New Kemukus Tourist Area or what people usually call the Mount Kemukus Area is located in Sragen Regency, Central Java. The development of this area is an integrated part of the Borobudur National Super Priority Destination and part of the Solo – Sangiran National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN). This has resulted in many domestic and foreign tourists traveling due to the uniqueness of religious and natural tourism. The impact that occurs due to the large number of tourists is waste. This problem means that waste management must be carried out with the help of local communities. Local community participation in waste management is very dependent on community awareness and willingness to improve environmental quality. This research aims to 1) Find out the factors inhibiting local community participation in waste management as well as community awareness and understanding of waste management in the development of the Mount Kemukus Area. 2) Know the sample distribution map of the location of aspects that inhibit participation. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and interviews distributed to 20 respondents. The results of the research stated that all aspects inhibiting participation were due to low knowledge about waste, the community's contribution regarding management was very high, the organizational aspect of the community caring for the environment was low, and the attitude aspect of respondents when they saw environmental damage due to waste was very high.
